Highland NY Real Estate

Highland, NY is a hamlet found on the western bank of the Hudson River, across from Poughkeepsie.  Highland is located within the Town of Lloyd in Ulster County, but most refer to the whole vicinity of the town as Highland as well.  Highland is a great place for commuters who take a short drive across the Mid-Hudson Bridge to hop on the train to Manhattan or to access the New York State Thruway in New Paltz.  

A wide mix of housing is available in Highland--from Victorian houses in the village, to newer developments to farm houses to estates overlooking the Hudson.  Some exiting new initiatives are underway in the area, including an initiative to convert the Highland-Poughkeepsie Railroad bridge into a walkway over the Hudson.  When finished in 2009, it will be the longest elevated public park in the world.  The town also purchased an area along the River to turn it into a town park.
